What I remember of my grandparents

My mother\'s Mother, Granny Meyer, her name was Sophie Schneider and she lived in Karlsruhe, Germany. She had an arranged marriage to George Meyer when she came to the United States, and no one seems to know where in Germany he lived before coming to the USA. When she came to the states she lived with a family out in Dover, Mass. As a child she lived close to the border of France on the Rhine River. Her father I was told ran a barge on the river. She had an uncle Stefan Schneider that was the Burgermeister, and it was her cousin Anna we went to see when we were over in Germany. Carol can probably help you with the German aspect as she came with your father and me. In fact she took us. Anna died a few years ago. I think as a young bride she lived in Roxbury, Ma., Was a stitcher in a factory as long as I can remember, Lived for years in West Roxbury in a house Louie (her son) owned with her other son Henry until she could no longer live alone. Then she came to live with us and only lived a few weeks/months.
